Dan R Casso, DMA

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Dr Dan R Casso, DMA, has established himself as a reliable and innovative performer, educator, and arranger. He has regularly performed as guest principal trumpet of the Boston Civic Symphony, Boston Chamber Symphony, Boston Opera Collaborative, Boston Annex Players, Apollo Ensemble of Boston, and New Philharmonia Orchestra. He has also performed with the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, Boston University Faculty Brass Quintet, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Bach Ensemble of St. Thomas. Recently, Dr Casso has championed new music for flugelhorn by commissioning and recording new works for the instrument. These recordings will be released in 2025 to become the first classical music album of original works written for the flugelhorn.

Dr Casso earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from Boston University in 2025 after publishing his doctoral dissertation, Occultations: An Exploration and Expansion of Solo and Chamber Literature Written for Flugelhorn. Previously, he earned his Master’s in Trumpet Performance from Miami University (OH) and his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His principal trumpet instructors are Terry Everson, Bruce Hall, Douglas Lindsay, Stephen Campbell, Gary Wurtz, and Russ Teweleit. Outside of music, Dan enjoys exercising, spending time with his friends, and supporting the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, San Antonio Spurs, and Vegas Golden Knights.
